WP
Description
WP is a two components (A&B) wash primer based on vinyl butyral and phosphoric acid.
Recommended Uses
WP is recommended mainly for difficult to paint metals. WP is used for chemical corrosion treatment on metal surfaces and not considered as a part of the paint system but rather as a pretreatment of the substrate (structural and galvanized steel, aluminum). WP provides good adhesion and corrosion resistance under alkyd, nitrocellulose, acrylic and vinyl topcoats, and also under epoxy, urethane, alkyd melamine and chlorinated rubber topcoats.
Features
• Increases corrosion resistance of metal substrates.
• Tie coat, improves the adhesion between the metallic substrate and the subsequent coating system.
• Provides better durability for coating systems.
• Provides high water resistance and reduced tendency to blister and to lose adhesion in high humidity.
• Suitable to be top-coated by almost all kinds of coatings such as epoxies, vinyls, alkyds, chlorinated rubber, urethanes, and many others.
Application Instruction
• Method of Application : Conventional spray.
• Mixing Ratio : (by volume) 1 to 1 (A to B)
• Mixing : Stir well before application in order to ensure that a uniform consistency is achieved. Never mix more material than can be used within potlife. Mixed materials not used within potlife must be discarded.
• Pot life : 8-12 hours.
• Thinner / Cleaner : Do not thin. Clean applying tools by S501 thinner.
• Application Temperature : 10-40?C.
• Note : Never mix materials in a metal container. Mixing can be occurred in a suitable plastic container.
Technical Information
• Color : WP(A) (Yellow), WP(B) (clear).
• Volume Solids : (mixed)9 % (ASTM-D2697)
• Recommended film thickness : 8-12 microns “dry”.
• Theoretical spreading rate : 9 m²/L at 10 microns “dry”.
• Number of Coats : 1
• Specific Gravity (mixed) : 1.105 kg/L (ASTM-D1475).
• Packaging : Component A:0.9 L in US Quart Component B:1L in plastic bottle.
Surface Preparation
Well-prepared-surfaces is an essential condition of coating successfulness. In general, surface must be clean, dry, undamaged and free of all contaminants prior to coating.

STEEL:

Remove all oil, grease, wax, …etc., from the surface to be coated by thinner S306.

Non-immersion service: Abrasive blast to Sa2 in accordance with ISO8501-1 and achieve a 25 ?m profile. Remove all abrasive residues and dust from surface.

Immersion services: Abrasive blast to Sa2½ in accordance with ISO8501-1, a near white Metal, and achieve 50-100?m profile. Remove all abrasive residues and dust from surface.

Apply WP immediately after surface preparation to prevent any contamination. Do not leave blasted steel uncoated overnight.

GALVANIZED STEEL OR ALUMINUM:

Remove all oil, grease, wax, …etc., from the surface to be coated by thinner S306.

Note: WP must never be applied over an old paint or surfaces soiled by grease, oil, or other contaminants.
Drying Time
• Dry to Touch : 15 minutes (ASTM-D1640).
• Dry to Handle : 2 hours (ASTM-D1640). 24 hours “minimum topcoat time” and 7 days “maximum topcoat time”.
• Note : Drying times can be affected by many factors such as temperature, ventilation and coat thickness. Higher temperatures will shorten the drying times.
Storing Conditions
-WP has to be kept in a cool and well-ventilated place, protected from heat and direct sunlight. WP is classified under highly corrosive (comp. B) and flammable (comp. A) materials.

-Shelf life is three years from packing date in unopened original containers at 10 to 40°C. Containers should be kept tightly closed.

Safety:
-Highly corrosive, contains phosphoric acid.

-Well-ventilated conditions should be provided during application.

-Do not breathe or inhale mist.

-Wear air mask and avoid skin or eye contact.
