EPX19
Description
EPX19 is a primer/coat based on two-component (A & B) water-based coal tar epoxy.
Recommended Uses
• As a primer/coat used a barrier for the protection of concrete substrates from water, dissolved salts, waste water, oils, and greases.
• Ideal for use in laundries and dyeing industries, bridge ground beams, under the central heating systems, underground surfaces, manholes, open or closed concrete reservoirs, sewage treatment plants, water-carrying pipes and tunnels (except potable water).
Features
• Excellent adhesion to concrete with excellent flexibility.
• Excellent resistance to water, sea-water, waste water, salt solutions, detergents, mineral oils, and greases (A separate leaflet CHR01 is available).
• Easy to apply even on damp concrete.
• No harmful vapors and scents are present (makes it suitable for use in confined areas).
• Suitable for water immersion service.
Application Instruction
• Method of Application : Airless spray or roller
• Mixing Ratio : (by volume) 3.6 to 0.55 (A to B), Water is added after mixing
• Mixing : The individual components of EPX19 should be thoroughly stirred before the two are mixed together. Combine components (A & B) in supplied proportions and mix thoroughly using a slow speed mixer for at least 3 minutes until uniform consistency is achieved; “DO NOT USE HIGH SPEED MIXER”. Never mix more material than can be used within potlife. Material that has begun to set must be discarded.
• Pot life : 4 hours (higher temperatures will shorten the Potlife sharply).
• Thinner / Cleaner : Water is used for thinning or cleaning. Mixing ratio with water depends mainly on temperature and on method of application. For example: At 20°C airless spray application will need no dilution.Other methods of application will need approx 15% by volume water. The higher the temperature the less the needed dilution. Due to potlife limitations, clean all mixing and applying tools by water immediately after application is completed.
• Curing : • The reaction between the epoxy and its curing agent (A & B) can not be guaranteed unless a temperature of at least 10°C is maintained for the mixture and the substrate until complete curing. Temperature of substrate should be at least 3°C above dew point to avoid moisture condensation during application.
• Note : 1- When recoating, a special attention should be given toward drying times “minimum & maximum recoating time”. Any delay in applying interval coats may request sanding the surface of the previous coat to insure good adhesion. 2- Coated surfaces by EPX19 should not be exposed to water, chemicals, or mechanical stresses before it is fully cured.

Surface Preparation
Well-prepared-surfaces is an essential condition of coating successfulness. In general, surface must be clean, undamaged and free of all contaminants prior to coating.
CONCRETE:
Old Concrete: remove fins and other protrusions by stoning, sanding or grinding. Abrasive blasting is best to remove all previous coatings, form oils, laitance and other foreign matter.
New concrete: must be cured at least 28 days at 21?C and 70% RH, or equivalent time. Fill small holes or voids with STOP200 before applying EPX19.
Drying Time
• Dry to Touch : 2 hours (ASTM-D1640).
• Dry to Handle : 24 hours “minimum recoat time”, 2 days “maximum recoat time” (ASTM-D1640).
• Fully Cured : 7 days.
Storing Conditions
• Epoxy system, in general, has to be kept in a cool and well ventilated place, protected from heat and direct sunlight.
• Shelf life is one year from packing date in unopened original containers at 10 to 40°C. Containers should be kept tightly closed.
Safety:
• Well ventilated conditions should be provided during application.
• Do not breathe or inhale mist.
• Wear air-mask and avoid skin or eye contact
