203 Primer
Description
High filling primer based on alkyd.
Recommended Uses
SYN203 Primer is recommended for industrial use, furniture, autorepair, metal and concrete surfaces. Different colors are available: White and Ivory for high filling, and Black for bleeding isolation.
Features
1- Excellent adhesion and filling properties.

2- Dries relatively fast which allows early sanding.

3- Can be topcoated by Nitrocellulose compounds.

4- Available in different colors: White and Ivory for high filling, and black for bleeding isolation.
Application Instruction
• Method of Application : Conventional spray.
• Mixing : Stir well before application in order to ensure that a uniform consistency is achieved.
• Thinner / Cleaner : S205 is used for thinning and cleaning. Mixing ratio with thinner depends mainly on temperature. At 20°C: Conventional spray will need approx. 1.1litre S205 per Gallon SYN203 Primer “white & ivory” and 1.5 litre S205 per Gallon SYN203 Primer “black”.
• Note : When recoating, a special attention should be given toward drying times.
Technical Information
• Color : White and Ivory “high filling”, Black “bleeding isolation”
• Volume Solids : 56 % "White, Ivory, and Black" (ASTM-D2697)
• Flexibility : Good
• Adhesion : Excellent
• Theoretical spreading rate : 11.2 m²/L (White, Ivory and Black) at 50 microns “dry”
• Specific gravity : 1.68 kg/L "White and Ivory", 1.59 kg/L "Black" (ASTM-D1475)
• Number of Coats : 2
• Packaging : 3.6 L in US Gallon or 0.9 L in US Quart
Surface Preparation
Coating performance is, in general, proportional to the degree of surface preparation. Surface must be clean, dry and free of dust and other contaminants prior to coating.

Bare Wood: Sand smoothly bare wood then remove dust prior to priming.
Concrete: Remove fins and other protrusions with sandpaper then clean the surface by water and allow to dry prior to priming.
Steel: Remove all oil, grease, wax…etc. from the surface to be coated by thinner S100 or S205. Remove rust and foreign matter using a wire brush. Then clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner,
dry compressed air or a clean brush and wipe the surface by thinner S100 or S205 with a clean cloth.
Painted surfaces: Remove fins, flecks of old paint and other loose material with sandpaper. Roughen glossy areas by sanding then remove dust prior to priming and wipe the surface by thinner S100 or S205 with a clean cloth.
Drying Time
• Dry to Touch : 30 minutes (ASTM-D1640).
• Dry to Handle : 12 hours "minimum recoat time" (ASTM-D1640).
• Note : Drying times can be affected by many factors such as temperature, ventilation and coat thickness. Higher temperatures will shorten the drying times.
Storing Conditions
SYN203 Primer has to be kept in a cool and well-ventilated place, protected from heat and direct sunlight. SYN203 Primer is classified under highly flammable materials.
Shelf life is 18 months from packing date in unopened original containers at 5 to 40°C. Containers should be kept tightly closed.
