C.RUBBER “RUB”
Description
Chlorinated rubber based finishing coat.
Recommended Uses
As a self-priming and /or finishing coat used mainly for protection of steel and concrete surfaces. Recommended for industrial applications in moderate to severe corrosive environments and also for protection of permanently submerged concrete surfaces such as swimming pools.
Features
Excellent weather resistance.
Excellent adhesion on well prepared surfaces.
Suitable to be applied directly over abrasive blast, clean, and dry steel and/or concrete surfaces.
Good resistance to sea water, mineral oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons and a wide range of chemicals but not to vegetable and animal oils or aromatic solvents.
Application Instruction
• Method of Application : Conventional spray or roller. Brush can be used for small areas.
• Mixing : Stir well before application in order to ensure that a uniform consistency is achieved.
• Thinner / Cleaner : S305 “known as RUB thinner” is used for thinning and cleaning. Mixing ratio with S305 depends mainly on temperature and on method of application. At 20°C, conventional spray application will need approx. 2.25 litre S305 per Gallon RUB.
• Application Temperature : 10-40؛C.
• Note : -When recoating, a special attention should be given toward drying times. -Temperature of substrate should be at least 3°C above the dew point of the air to avoid moisture condensation during application. Notice : -Never apply RUB over unclean and damp surfaces otherwise the applied coat could be removed easily. -Be sure that RUB is applied on the entire surface to be coated (corners, cavities, etc…) in order to prevent water leakage under the coated surface, otherwise the applied coat could be removed easily. -Never apply RUB in a cloudy or rainy weather and be sure that RUB is not exposed to water before it is fully dry

Surface Preparation
Well-prepared-surfaces is an essential condition of coating successfulness. In general, surface must be clean, dry, undamaged and free of all contaminants prior to coating.

STEEL:

RUB can be applied directly on well-prepared metal surfaces. Remove all oil, grease, wax, …etc., from the surface to be coated by thinner (S100 or S101). Abrasive blast to Sa2½ in accordance with ISO8501-1 and achieve a 50 ?m profile. Remove all abrasive residues and dust from surface.

Apply RUB immediately after surface preparation to prevent any contamination. Do not leave blasted steel uncoated overnight.

PRIMING “if required”: Prepare surface in accordance with application instructions for the suitable primer being used (SIP900). Be sure that primer is clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, and any other contaminants prior to applying RUB.

CONCRETE:

Remove fins and other protrusions by stoning, sanding, or grinding. Abrasive blasting is best to remove all previous coatings, oils, laitance, and other foreign matters. Fill small holes or voids with STOP200 before applying RUB. New concrete must be cured at least 28 days at 21°C and 50% RH, or equivalent time. Then apply a thin coat (100 microns dry) of STOP200 “refer to technical leaflet” before applying RUB”.

Note: RUB must never be applied over an old paint or over damp and contaminated surfaces soiled by grease, oil, or other contaminants.
Drying Time
• Dry to Touch : 30 minutes (ASTM-D1640).
• Dry to Handle : 24 hours “minimum recoat time” (ASTM-D1640).
• Note : Drying times can be affected by many factors such as temperature, ventilation and coat thickness. Higher temperatures will shorten the drying times.
Storing Conditions
-RUB has to be kept in a cool and well-ventilated place, protected from heat and direct sunlight. RUB is classified under highly flammable materials.
-Shelf life is two years from packing date in unopened original containers at 5 to 30°C. Containers should be kept tightly closed.

Safety:

-Well-ventilated conditions should be provided during application.
-Do not breathe or inhale mist.
-Wear air mask and avoid skin or eye contact.
