WT16
Description
WT16 is a water emulsion acrylic Roof coating.
Recommended Uses
Used for the protection of roofs from water and weathering. Suitable for a wide range of substrates such as concrete, cement, brick, asbestos, polyurethane insulating foam. Typical uses are in water excluding structures, roofs terraces, balconies, and in all types of buildings exposed to extreme climatic conditions such as low temperatures and heavy rains.
Features
• Excellent waterproof properties.
• Highly resistant to the effects of ultra-violet light and weathering.
• Excellent flexibility, outstanding resistance to substrate cracking.
• Excellent adhesion to most building surfaces (even on metal surfaces).
• Easy to apply.
• Short drying times, reducing overcoating times considerably.
Application Instruction
• Method of Application : Roller or with a special spray instrument.
• Mixing : Stir well before application in order to ensure that a uniform consistency is achieved.
• Thinner / Cleaner : In general, there is no need to dilute. But if required a small amount of water is added. Clean applying tools immediately after application is completed by water.
• Application Temperature : 10-40?C.
• Note : • When recoating, a special attention should be given toward drying times.
Technical Information
• Color : White or under request
• Volume Solids : 50 % (ASTM-D2697).
• VOC : 37.8 g/L (ASTM-D3960).
• Flexibility : Excellent.
• Adhesion : Excellent.
• Recommended film thickness : 250-600 microns “dry”.
• Theoretical spreading rate : 2 m²/L at 250 microns “dry”
• Specific gravity : 1.2 kg/L (ASTM-D1475)
• Water resistance : Excellent.
• Number of Coats : 2 – 3
• Packaging : 20 Kg in plastic pail
Surface Preparation
Coating performance is, in general, proportional to the degree of surface preparation. Surface must be clean, undamaged and free of oil, grease, and other contaminants prior to coating.
It is recommended to apply WT16 on primed surfaces.
Priming: Prepare surface in accordance with application instructions for the suitable primer being used.
• Priming on steel : Professional Primer 900 is used to ensure good adhesion of WT16 to the substrates.
• Priming on concrete : Highly porous concrete surfaces must be primed with acrylic primer (WT01) then WT16 is applied.
For extremely low porous and smooth substrates such as flagstone it is recommended to prime the substrates with EPX17 or EPX27 to ensure good adhesion of WT16 to the substrate, (refer to technical leaflet of EPX17 or EPX27). In case you desire the implementation of isolation below flagstone (tiles), it is recommended to use WT18.
Note:
Prior to applying WT16, the primer should be left to achieve a dry to handle condition. Be sure primer is clean, dry, and free of oil grease and other contaminants.
Drying Time
• Dry to Touch :
• Dry to Handle : 8 hours “minimum recoat time” (ASTM-D1640).
• Complete Setting : 8-24 hours “depends on coat thickness” (ASTM-D1640).
• Note : Drying times can be affected by many factors such as temperature, ventilation and coat thickness. Higher temperatures will shorten the drying times.
Storing Conditions
• WT16 must not be allowed to be stored in untreated metals that are likely to corrode. Containers must be kept tightly closed. Exposure to strong heat and frost must be avoided.
• Shelf life is two years from packing date in unopened original containers at 10 to 40°C. Containers should be kept tightly closed.
Safety:
Avoid skin or eye contact. Prolonged contact may cause irritation of the skin and mucous membranes.
